Project Background
This project is located in Nsasa, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. For this project, building construction site works are executed by Aura Build Ltd, working under the coordination of the main contractor, Curr Engineering Solutions. The original architectural visualizations and building plans were prepared by Pent House Engineering Consults.
Establishing clear roles and communication pathways is vital for execution success. Aura Build Ltd is strictly focused on executing the physical works on ground according to the approved architectural drawings and structural details, utilizing high-quality materials and professional engineering supervision.
Scope of Works Assigned
Aura Build Ltd was engaged to execute all critical phase works on site, which includes:
- Setting Out & Excavation: Establishing grids, structural axes, and foundation trenches.
- Substructure Works: Reinforcement steel fabrication, footing casting, and starter column erection.
- Ground Floor Slab: Formwork, backfilling, compacting, damp-proof membrane installation, and concrete pouring.
- Superstructure Framing: Casting columns, assembling beam formwork, laying suspended slab reinforcement, hollow clay blockwork, and slab casting.
- Retaining Structure: Erecting retaining walls to manage sloping site elevations safely.
Technical Challenges & Site Solutions
Managing a structural execution requires balancing structural engineering guidelines with site logistics. One major challenge was the soil profiling and grade management. Since Kira features varying topography, executing the retaining walls and the first-floor required precise leveling. Aura Build Ltd addressed this by conducting optical levels checks during setting out.
Additionally, ensuring concrete quality during slab pours required continuous monitoring of the water-cement ratio and prompt curing routines. This ensures structural integrity and high concrete compressive strength over time.
Execution Sequence
The site execution is conducted in a logical, engineered sequence to ensure load-path safety:
- Site Clearing & Layout: Setting out profiles, establishing building lines, and excavating pad footings (started June 6, 2026).
- Substructure Reinforcement: Placing reinforcement bars for footings and linking them securely to the starter columns.
- Ground Slab Pouring: Blinding layers, laying steel mesh, plumbing conduits, and concrete casting.
- Vertical Members: Erection of column reinforcement cages, shuttering alignment, and concrete casting.
- Suspended Slab Framework: Assembling support props, running beams, inserting concrete floor blocks, and laying the top reinforcement steel grid.
- Casting & Curing: Pouring the slab concrete mix and executing standard wet curing to achieve optimal structural strength.
